Purchasing an energy efficient heating or air conditioning unit could save you money in more ways than one. Not only can you cut the price of your monthly energy bill, you may be eligible for tax credits and rebates. Here are several options available for you if you choose an energy efficient alternative:
President Obama has extended the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 into 2011, which could be great news for you! From now until the end of the year, if you own an existing home and would like to upgrade to an energy efficient alternative, you could receive up to $500 back. All products must meet Energy Star ratings or other efficiency measures set forth by the Act. You may receive up to $150 back for an efficient furnace, and 10% off new insulation in your home. The offer expires December 31, 2011, and you must fill out form 5695 for the 2011 IRS, before April 15th, 2012. You'll need to keep your receipt and the certification statement from the manufacturer of the product.
